After all the stations were done, I added a short response to the end of the assignment from Station 3 on StudySync. You will respond to the prompt with a well-written response and do TWO peer reviews using the rubric. This is the same kind of question you may see on the final with the same rubric. We will go over examples of high scoring answers next week. DUE by Monday, Nov. 19th.
Should be none, but if anything was not completed in class then it needs to be turned in when we return from break. Happy Thanksgiving!

Reading Journals - we set them up today and you made your reading goal and started a list of books that you'd like to read. I accidentally stayed at school until nearly 5 o'clock today because I was playing around with mine! Be sure to keep reading!
You can save yourself some stress and time next week by doing the lesson on "Creating Commentary" over the weekend. Though I didn't assign it as homework, I highly suggest you finish it before class on Monday so you can use the entire period to work on your rough draft. This can be found on Google Classroom with instruction.

Lesson on how to integrate your quotes (evidence) into sentences. This presentation is on Google Classroom. You have your own copy so you can take notes and highlight as you need. There is a copy you can view below, but you cannot edit this one.
I passed out an essay outline today as well. Use the skills you just learned from the lesson today on integrating quotes to write your sentences on evidence. Right now you should be able to add your thesis, topic sentences, and evidence to the outline. Remember: each time you rewrite a sentence, revise it to make it better!
Check the Essay Guidelines on Google Classroom. What step are you on? What should you get done to be prepared to add commentary tomorrow? You should be done writing your sentences including evidence by tomorrow. (Step 7.1)

I've been writing the essay along with you. I wrote a thesis and my three topic sentences and shared them with you today as an example. Please revise your topic sentences based upon what I've shared and any notes I was able to leave on your paper.
Then we went over collecting evidence briefly and I gave you time to find four pieces of evidence for each paragraph. You may only use two of them but having four solid pieces will allow you with options. See the slides below for how to set up your paper.

Boo to Bullying presentations are today and tomorrow. Periods 3 and 5 are going Monday. Period 2, 4, and 6 did the task below. Tomorrow it will switch.
You already have your thesis statement that has your theme and your three texts that you plan on writing about. Now you’ll need to write topic sentences for your three body paragraphs. Each topic sentence will be about one of your texts and should include:
Thesis: The commitment to education which is apparent in two classic American texts, William Bradford’s Of Plymouth Plantation and Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, would serve the colonists well and help to shape America’s emerging identity over the years ahead.
Topic Sentence 1: In Of Plymouth Plantation, William Bradford demonstrates that many of the Pilgrims were already quite well educated, especially in the areas of religion and philosophy.
This was due at the end of the class period. If you don't have your three topic sentences completed on time, then you need to make sure you do them tonight as homework.

Today we worked on turning the themes from our tree map into theme statements. Then, we turned our theme statements into thesis statements. The first presentation below teaches about theme statements and can also be found on Classroom. The second has the instructions for what to do and how to turn it into a thesis. You need to have 2 rough drafts of your thesis by Monday.

Warm up: Spelling
We went over #5 on the Breaking Down an Essay Prompt sheet because that's going to be the prompt you will use for the essay you will actually write. Then turn in the assignment.
Afterwards, we made a tree map to list the themes in the four texts that we read: Of Plymouth Plantation, The Crucible, "On Being Brought from Africa to America", and The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavas Vassa, the African. This needs to be completed tomorrow.
Finish tree map. At least 3 themes each, but the more the better.

We have learned about the rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, logos) and we practiced with SOAPS. Use both your notes and your SOAPS worksheet to help you answer six related questions on StudySync. This assignment is titled ¨Skills Focus: The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Oluadah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African.¨

Go to the library for Teen Read Week. Check out a new book for outside reading.
Outside reading will be changing second quarter. You´ll need to get a journal for this class. Your journal should be smaller than a standard spiral notebook. It should be about the size of a book so you can easily carry it around with you. You will need this by next week.
