Parent ResourcesI have compiled a list of resources that you may find helpful in supporting your student at home.
Check out these sources and workshops created to empower parents within our district: Family Center - Palm Springs Unified School District. Also, check out their calendar of events. Basic Useful Stuff Standards-Based Grading - this website has a great description of how standards-based grading works and the reasons why it is beneficial What is student-centered teaching? Rewordify.com simplifies difficult text. Enter hard sentences (or whole chapters) into the box at the top of the page. Then click Rewordify text and you'll instantly see an easier version! The reworded words are highlighted— click them to hear and learn the original harder word. Paper Rater - use before you turn a paper in! Word and Google Docs miss a lot of grammar errors, and even spelling ones sometimes. Paper Rater.com is a free check that looks for lots of potential issues in a paper. It checks spelling, grammar, passive voice, transitional phrases, and more. (Remember that the "grade" given at the end is not necessarily the grade I will give you, because it's not looking for correctness of topic, if the text fits the assigned prompt etc but only looks for those English mechanics to be correct!) SAT/ACT Preparation Be SAT Wise offers effective and affordable SAT/ACT prep organized and taught by high school teachers.
