Mission Statement
It is my mission to have all students reach and exceed the content standards in English Language Arts by encouraging students to think creatively and providing support as they challenge themselves intellectually.
About this Class
We will be reading and analyzing a number of nonfiction and fiction texts that address social and global questions.
We will increase our writing skills across various genres from expository and persuasive essays to creative and job-related writing. We will also practice speaking and listening skills through writing and delivering speeches. I will encourage outside reading and will work my hardest to foster a love of reading and writing in my students. |
About Mrs. Abby Sanchez
Hello! I am very excited to be in my fourth year teaching at Palm Springs High School! I am originally from Washington, just south of Seattle. Being from the Pacific Northwest, I love being outside either hiking, camping, skiing, or riding bikes. Since moving here, the weather and environment are so different that my main outdoor activities now are morning hikes, hanging out by the pool, or making trips to the beach. My indoor hobbies include do-it-yourself projects, reading, knitting, and catching up on my favorite shows (there are a lot!).
I found my passion in English during my time as an undergraduate student at the University of Washington. I love to read and discuss literature, and comments from my professors allowed me to realize I am a strong writer. After a few years exploring alternate career paths, I realized that teaching truly is my dream job. I went to the University of Redlands for my credential and Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching, and graduated April 2016 with my degrees. My goal as a teacher is to cultivate a love of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the next generation by sharing my passion with them.
University of Redlands, Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching, Teaching Credential, 2016
New York University, Certificate in Publishing, 2013
University of Washington, Bachelor of Arts in English, 2012
