Warm up: Hyphens: Compound adjectives practice

Textual Evidence - The Crucible
We did an activity on how to find and use textual evidence to make inferences when we were reading Of Plymouth Plantation. In English, we circle back and practice tasks till we're proficient. Today, we're using these textual evidence skills in relation to The Crucible and "At the Foot of the Gallows".

There are three parts to this assignment. Follow the instructions listed on the handout, found below. For part 1, don't forget to answer the "Your Turn" questions on StudySync.

Today we remember the bravery of the first responders and the lives lost on September 11, 2001 when the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were attacked.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Late work may only be turned in up to 3 days late. After this time, I will not grade the assignment. Be responsible and plan ahead!

Warm up: Hyphens: Prefixes practice

In class we had a discussion about The Crucible, reviewing major themes from the text. We also watched and discussed the SyncTV episode where students discussed the text. We took notes on our discussions but you will hold on to them for now.

If you were absent, please find the "First Read: The Crucible" assignment on StudySync. Watch the SyncTV episode. Put an MLA heading on a sheet of paper and answer the 3 questions that follow to get participation credit from today's discussion:
  • 01:30 - Ben claims that Abigail and Betty "were doing some pretty witchy things" in the forest. Does evidence in the text support his judgment?
  • 04:43 - Olivia says she would like to bring "lies and deception" into the list of themes being discussed. Do you think she has already made a valid argument for including that topic?
  • 05:31 - Ben proposes that "religion and spirituality" are themes, and Olivia responds that this is "obvious." Do you think she means that in a good way or a bad way? Does the text support Ben's analysis?

HOMEWORK:
None.
