VOCAB QUIZ #3
When finished with the vocab quiz, students worked on completing one See Reader activity and two Read Arounds on Reading Plus. Afterwards, work on One-Pager. HOMEWORK: One-Pager due Monday. Warm up: Adverb Practice
Today was a work day. You had the period to work on your One-Pager. See yesterday's post for more information. You also have a handout with guidelines. HOMEWORK: None, but your one-pager is due Monday! Warm up: Notes on Adverbs:
Adverbs - modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. An adverb can answer any of these: Where? When? How? To what extent? Adverbs modify verbs: Henry swam brilliantly. (How did Henry swim?) Adverbs modify adjectives: The day was almost perfect. (To what extent was the day perfect?) Adverbs modify adverbs: Sonny, swallow your food very slowly. (How slowly should Sonny swallow his food?) ***Many adverbs end with -ly, though some do not. We talked about major themes within A Lesson Before Dying such as racism, injustice, loyalty, humanity, responsibility, and education. There is a lesson on Nearpod that will guide you through creating a theme statement. The link can be found through Google Classroom. Tomorrow we will be working on a One-Pager. This is one page for you to show your knowledge and connection with the book. I handed out a description and rubric for the One-Pager today, so keep it with you as we work on these tomorrow and Friday. HOMEWORK: Finish the book! Warm up: Commonly confused word practice.
We read chapter 29 today. This chapter is Jefferson's diary so it can be hard to read because he doesn't use punctuation or proper spelling. It's a really emotional chapter as well because Jefferson is recounting his last days. Afterwards, we wrote a journal entry and then discussed whether Grant met his goal of making Jefferson a man. HOMEWORK: Read chapter 30. Warm up: Vocab #3 third set of words. Asymmetrical, Centimeter, Chronometer, Diameter, Pentameter, Thermometer
Quiz is FRIDAY! Quizlet is available here ---> We worked on writing skills today, using an AXES paragraph model. Everyone got a reference sheet and we did a paragraph for the first question together and then you chose one of the other questions to do on your own.
Finish your paragraphs. Today we did the InSight assessment on Reading Plus. You can access reading plus by going to www.psusd.us, clicking on the "schools" tab, and going to "Clever Log In". From Clever you can access reading plus by clicking on the orange icon.
HOMEWORK: Read chapter 28. Finish storyboards! Due Monday! Warm up: Commonly confused word practice.
I passed out copies of chapter 27 today. As I read aloud we highlighted moments in the chapter that showed Grant as more educated in one color and moments that showed Reverend Ambrose as more educated in another color. We then answered the question: In your opinion, who is more educated and why? Use evidence to support your answer. After a brief discussion, I left the rest of the period to finishing our storyboards from chapters 23 and 24. Storyboards are due Monday. HOMEWORK: Work on storyboards. Partner 1 brings it home tonight; partner 2 brings it home over the weekend. Warm up: Commonly confused words part 4
After reading chapter 24 as a class, we worked in partners to continue working on a "storyboard" of chapters 23 and 24 . Your storyboard should include:
