Wow! Its 2020 and the beginning of a new decade. Each new decade has marked a significant chapter in my life. In the 1990s I was a child. In the 2000s I was a teenager. In the 2010s I was growing into an adult; getting degrees, a career, a husband, and a baby. In other words: responsibilities. But, I love all these responsibilities!
As this new year begins, I find it fitting, as most people do, to make some goals for the year. There are many articles and studies that show that individuals who set goals are more productive and happy than those that don't set goals, even if they don't achieve them. (Check out this article from Forbes.) So here are my goals: Read 20 books in 2020. - I don't often have time/make time to read for pleasure anymore. With everything going on in my life, it can be hard to make this a priority. Reading used to be a huge part of my life (hence why I'm an English teacher) and I want to get back to the thing I love. Spend less on material items and more on experiences. - I look around my house and I see so much stuff. Stuff I don't need, stuff I don't want, and stuff that's just clutter. I want to spend less money on buying stuff and instead spend my extra money on experiences like travel, concerts, plays, and other adventures that are more fun than sitting on the couch surrounded by stuff. Continue to push myself. - This is less of a goal for this year and more of a philosophy on life that I've always had. I want to make sure I continue to push myself to improve. Improve at the gym, improve as a teacher, improve my relationships, improve as a cook. I want to always strive to improve rather than just sit and be complacent. Three seems like the perfect number of goals. I'm ready to start a new year! I know there will be many exciting memories to be made which is something I am really looking forward to.
