I passed out a warm up sheet called a Lifeline. Each week I will collect your Lifeline on Friday. We will use warm ups to focus on our language skills so Lifelines will go in the gradebook under Language.
Warm up: Chapter 1 review. Write the first 10 roots and their definitions on your Lifeline. Then add a vocab word example for each. ANNOUCEMENT: We will review chapters 1-4 vocabulary over the next two weeks. Since this vocab is designed to get you ready for the SAT, you need to remember it! So we will have a vocab test on chapters 1-4 again on Monday, January 27th. Each vocab test going forward will include words/roots from all the lists we've had this year. Organize binders. Take out everything from "assignment" section and staple. Either leave this packet in your binder, or find another home for it. Keep everything in the Vocab and Toolkit tabs. Quickwrite: You can write about what you did over break and/or you can write about what goals you’re setting for yourself in 2020. You need to write at least ¾ of a page. HOMEWORK: None.

Read The Scarlet Letter in your StudySync consumable. As you read, use the reading comprehension skill of visualization to create a mental picture of the scene and characters in your mind. Vocab: Change the first tab in your binder to "Vocabulary". Add a new table of contents for this section. I handed out a list of root words to begin studying for SAT vocabulary today. You'll want to read through the roots and begin to become familiar with them. We will have a vocab test every three weeks in class. It is your responsibility to make sure you're doing the practice you need to in order to be prepared. In class today we wrote an AXES paragraph to answer the following prompt: How do the first experiences of the Pilgrims in the New World help to shape early American identity? Use the text to support your answers.
This will be a summative grade for reading informational texts. In other words, I’m looking to see how well you portray that you understand the text. HOMEWORK: You have a grammar test tomorrow on Building Compound & Complex Sentences. You can prepare by doing the practice and lessons on No Red Ink. The link is on Google Classroom. |
