Your assignment is on StudySync. You can listen to an audio of The Scarlet Letter again for better understanding. The sub gave you a handout that goes with the video. Pause the video and answer the questions where directed. Then, answer the Think questions as thoroughly as possible. HOMEWORK: Finish if not done in class. Warm up: Vocab practice
Read The Scarlet Letter in your StudySync consumable. As you read, use the reading comprehension skill of visualization to create a mental picture of the scene and characters in your mind. What would this look like as a movie? Annotate the text for vocabulary, key details and ideas, and questions you have while reading. HOMEWORK: Finish your annotations. Warm up: matching vocabulary
Is public shaming effective? If you were absent, complete the Blast on StudySync titled "For Shame". HOMEWORK: None. PICTURE DAY!
Mindfulness: Deep breathing for stress relief Grammar test on No Red Ink. Don't like your score? You can take it again! You have to complete the practice I assigned to be eligible to retake the test. See me to sign up for a time at lunch to do your retake. When done, go to StudySync and do the blast "For Shame". HOMEWORK: Read pg. 5-10 of the vocab handout "Basic Word Roots" Warm up: What do you do when you come across a word you don’t know while you’re reading? What are three things you could do to understand the meaning of the word?
Vocab: Change the first tab in your binder to "Vocabulary". Add a new table of contents for this section. I handed out a list of root words to begin studying for SAT vocabulary today. You'll want to read through the roots and begin to become familiar with them. We will have a vocab test every three weeks in class. It is your responsibility to make sure you're doing the practice you need to in order to be prepared. In class today we wrote an AXES paragraph to answer the following prompt: How do the first experiences of the Pilgrims in the New World help to shape early American identity? Use the text to support your answers.
This will be a summative grade for reading informational texts. In other words, I’m looking to see how well you portray that you understand the text. HOMEWORK: You have a grammar test tomorrow on Building Compound & Complex Sentences. You can prepare by doing the practice and lessons on No Red Ink. The link is on Google Classroom. Warm up: Choose one of the challenging words from the section you read yesterday in Of Plymouth Plantation and describe what it means. Then write a new sentence using the word.
In Class: Jigsaw Day 2 You switched groups and learned about the other sections of the text today. Then you created a bubble map of adjectives used to describe the settlers together. We then watched a video that explained that there are two main types of evidence: explicit, or directly stated, and inferred, or evidence you have to dig deeper to find. You can also bring your own knowledge to the text to understand what the evidence means. After you've created your bubble map, choose one of the BEST adjectives to find evidence for in the text. You need to come to class tomorrow with this adjective and text evidence support. Absent today? Finish reading Of Plymouth Plantation. Create a bubble map including at least 5 adjectives about the settlers. Then find text evidence to support the best of your five adjectives. Bring this with you to class tomorrow. HOMEWORK: Have text evidence for one adjective that describes the settlers. Practice for your grammar test on Friday. (Check Google Classroom). Warm up: Quickwrite in notebook
Jigsaw Day 1: Read Of Plymouth Plantation. In class we read one section in a small group. If you were absent, you will need to read the entire text. I encourage you to work with other students who were absent so you can discuss the text for better understanding. You will do this in class tomorrow if you are present. HOMEWORK: Make sure you fully understand your portion of the text and you have your summary complete. Mindfulness Monday: Calm Breathing
