Using the skills we talked about yesterday, you're going to go back to Newsela and read the new article that has been assigned. This is titled "Rise of the Counterculture". When you're done reading through the article, be sure to answer the quiz questions and respond to the write. Then you may choose any other article on Newsela to read and respond to.
HOMEWORK: None. Today, we went over the responses to the quiz questions for the article "Should students have to wear school uniforms?" on Newsela. We went over why the correct answer was the best answer for each question. We then reviewed the writing portion by looking at the scores. The scoring guide is 1-3 with 3 being the best score and is graded as follows:
HOMEWORK: None. Warm up: What is your opinion on school uniforms? Do you think this kind of conformity could be beneficial or harmful? Why?
Today's assignment is on www.newsela.com. You will sign in using your Google account, then go to your "Binder". When you scroll down you'll see the article titled “Issue Overview: Should students have to wear school uniforms?”
HOMEWORK: Finish any part of today's assignment that you did not complete. I collected the two questions that you answered at the end of class on Wednesday.
Today you used the article "The Sociology of Leopard Man" to choose 5 MOST IMPORTANT words. From those words you wrote your own summary of the essay. Then you wrote a paragraph response to the essay where you could respond to any of the following questions:
When done, practice your vocab words using Quizlet. VOCAB TEST FRIDAY 1/27. HOMEWORK: None. You had a sub today. With the sub you answered questions about the text that were based on logos (logical reasoning), ethos (credible sources), and pathos (emotional appeals). This was due at the end of the period.
HOMEWORK: None. Because you had a sub yesterday, today I wanted to make sure that we discuss the content of the article. We went over the reading comprehension questions from Friday first. Then we worked through the article to chunk the reading into logical sections and explain why those sections make sense.
At the end of the period you answered 2 questions: 1. Which section is most developed? Why? 2. Which section is least developed? What would make it more complete? HOMEWORK: None. Warm up: Why is Leopard Man so happy?
Today you had a sub. You were to work through the article a second time and annotate the text as you go. 1. Highlight and label the following points in the essay in the left-hand margin
3. Highlight in another color any places where you are confused. HOMEWORK: None. Today we started the article "The Sociology of Leopard Man" by Logan Feys. After our first read through the article, you are to work independently to answer the questions on Google Classroom.
HOMEWORK: Finish questions if not done in class. Warm up: Take 5 minutes to prepare to present your conformist or nonconformist poster you created yesterday.
Presentations went well! Afterwards, we discussed how the terms "conformist" and "nonconformist" relate to being part of a group or being an individual. As a class we decided that conformists are usually part of a group and nonconformists are oftentimes individuals, though there are always exceptions. After presentations, I passed out vocabulary charts to get us familiar with some of the words in "The Sociology of Leopard Man." There are extra copies in the absent bin in the back of the room. Start your vocabulary chart by marking how familiar you are with each of the terms. I then passed out the definitions and gave you time to work in groups of four to match the definitions to the terms. Once you had the definitions next to the correct terms, you were to copy down the definitions, making your own vocab chart. HOMEWORK: Finish your vocab chart if not finished in class. |
Important:Be sure to check back daily for assignments. Especially if you are absent! Archives
