Warm up: Set 2 of our vocab words. Be sure to get those synonyms!
Yearbook pictures were taken today.
After photos we read through "In Pursuit of Unhappiness" looking specifically at the quotes from Thomas Carlyle and John Stuart Mill. We highlighted quotes from Carlyle in yellow and quotes from Mill in pink.
Book selfies were also due today! If you had trouble getting your photo printed and/or your photo wasn't on the front table you need to let me know. I'll send another batch of photos to the printer on Friday for those that had difficulty.
Finish the assignment from class today.
Warm-up: Notes on nouns. If you are ever absent you need to get the warm-ups from a classmate as there will be notebook checks every other Friday and "I was absent" is not an excuse for missing warm-ups.
Today we followed up with our predictions from yesterday by filling out a SOAPS-LT chart for "In Pursuit of Unhappiness". The SOAPS-LT is a way for us to read a text more closely for understanding. Today we made predictions for each of the categories. There are extra copies in the "absent" folder.
At the end of the period I walked the class through uploading our book selfies. To recap:
No homework! But make sure you're starting off the year on the right foot! If you didn't finish the activity on Google Classroom for yesterday, make sure you get that done by the end of the night.
Our warm-up today was on nouns. If you missed the warm-up you'll want to get it from someone so you still receive points for the notebook check next Friday.

The assignment today is on Google Classroom. You are previewing the text and making predictions. For each quote you will answer some questions to make predictions about the content of the article and what the author is saying.
Homework is to finish the activity and click "turn in" on Google Classroom if you did not finish in class.
If you have your "book selfie" photo saved to your phone or to YOUR Google Drive tomorrow (Wednesday) I will help walk you through how to upload your photo to the drop box. If you would like to do it yourself there are instructions on Google Classroom.
Warm up: Vocabulary #1, set 1 of 4. Get this from another student if you were absent. Remember to find 2 synonyms per word and highlight them in your notebook. Notebook checks are every other Friday.
Today we started our first ERWC unit: "In Pursuit of Unhappiness." We did an activity to brainstorm ideas of how you can achieve true happiness. We then looked at results from a teen survey on happiness and responded to the question posted on Google Classroom. After posting, each student responded to another student's answer by either agreeing, disagreeing, asking a question, or offering further information. No homework from today!
None from today, yay!
REMINDER: Book selfie photos are due WEDNESDAY by 3:30 pm so I can get them printed!
Check Google Classroom for instructions! If you have your photo on your phone by Wednesday, we will walk through the instructions for uploading together.
