1. I came around to check off your thesis statement and give you feedback. 2. We then talked about #2 on your "Taking a Stance" worksheet. This is about who your audience will be. You can find more information about this on slide 4 through the link below. 3. After jotting down some information about who your audience is, you will look for evidence. This is #3 on your "Taking a Stance" worksheet. You'll notice there is no where for you to write. I handed out a blank sheet of paper. Fold it in half and use each box to help organize your info into facts, statistics, statements from authorities, and personal statements and evidence. You can find more explanation on slides 5-7 in the link below. HOMEWORK:
Continue finding evidence. Have a great weekend!

1. Finish discussion from yesterday.
2. Respond under your summaries: Now write a statement explaining which author you agree with the most and why. It is rare that we agree “totally” with anyone, so make sure that you also note whatever reservations you have about the author’s position. Make sure you get this checked off by me. Your summary and response will go in the gradebook. 3. I passed out the essay prompts and we worked on our thesis statements. Check the absent bin for 2 handouts. HOMEWORK: Finish your first draft of your thesis. We are preparing to write an essay on all four articles. We will take it one step at a time. Today, you wrote a 3 sentence summary for each of the four articles.
Using your annotations and notes for each article, write a short summary of each by writing one sentence in answer to the following questions:
The author’s main argument is… _(author’s last name)_ wants us to… Hope you had a wonderful 4-day weekend!
If you were absent last Thursday, you made up the CAASPP today. If you were absent today as well, you need to make arrangements with me to make this up by Thursday at the latest. If you were here on Thursday, you need to work on and finish the assignment "Thinking Critically" on Google Classroom. This assignment (originally from Wednesday) is due by midnight tonight, regardless of your attendance Thursday. HOMEWORK: Thinking Critically. 1. Assignment on classroom: Rayner - Thinking Critically. Be sure to read the directions.
2. If you did not finish the assignment from yesterday - Noticing Language - you need to make sure you finish it tonight. HOMEWORK: Finish both assignments above. 1. Write a “B” in the left margin where you think the argument applies only to Britain and a “U” where you think the argument is more “Universal,” applying to the whole world. In the right margin, note why you chose the letter you did.
2. Assignment on Google Classroom. Find the word in context. Explain the meaning of the SENTENCE. HOMEWORK: Finish assignment: "Briticisms" 1. Vocabulary: Record and then highlight the vocab words where they are found in the article. 2. Read through "Big Agriculture is the Only Option to Stop the World Going Hungry" by Jay Rayner.
3. Chunk the article. Draw a line where the intro ends. Draw a line where the conclusion begins. 4. Now draw lines between the major sections of the essay. For each section, consider the following questions, and make notes in the left margin:
HOMEWORK: Finish annotations. We took a practice CAASPP today. If you did not finish, or if you were absent, you will finish/make up the exam on Monday.
Have a great weekend! 1. Reflection on Food Diary. Take a few minutes to look back through your food diary. Do you see any patterns in your diet? Have your eating habits changed in any way since you started thinking about the food you eat? Why or why not? Do you want to change your eating habits since reading the articles by Berry, Pollan, and Barboza? Why or why not?
2. Predictions: We're reading one last article in our Politics of Food unit. We did a brief prediction discussion based on the title of the next article, first with a partner, then as a class. 3. Review of AXES paragraph structure and practice using structure. This is the structure that will ensure that you fully answer written responses to short answer questions on the CAASPP. Handout and Nearpod practice activity are on Google Classroom. ANNOUNCEMENT: You will be taking the CAASPP practice exam tomorrow. This is MANDATORY and you should do your best. The results tell me what you know, and what we need to work on so you can be successful for the upcoming test in May. |
Important:Be sure to check back daily for assignments. Especially if you were absent! Archives
