Food Diary
We did an activity to look at the stylistic choices made by Berry, Pollan, and Barboza in writing their articles. The assignment is on Google Classroom. HOMEWORK: If you did not finish in class, you need to finish at home.

Today you finished your webquest by the end of the period while we watched the rest of Food, Inc.
Make sure to bring all 3 articles to class on Monday. The Pollan, Berry, and Barboza articles. You will need all three for the assignment and I can't guarantee there are extra copies here. HOMEWORK: None. Warm up: Food diary (not too much longer folks so make sure you're keeping up!)
Yesterday you looked at food packages. Today, you used the info you gathered and your knowledge from the Pollan, Berry, and Bardoza articles to create an anti-advertisement for your product. In other words, how would you UNSELL your product. Then you did a webquest online to see what current laws and regulations are in place for marketing food to children, in and out of schools. We will finish this tomorrow. HOMEWORK: None. Warm up: Food diary
We finished the activity "Noticing Language" on Google Classroom today. We then got out our food labels.
HOMEWORK: None. Warm up: Food diary.
Quickwrite: What year was the article “If You Pitch It, They Will Eat” written by David Barboza? What is the main claim of this article? Find one support of this claim that may be outdated or no longer true. I was disappointed to see that out of all three classes only two people appeared to have their annotating done from yesterday. Today was a silent workday to make up for yesterday's lack of work. Annotations need to be done before class tomorrow. HOMEWORK: Catch up on work. Bring food package for tomorrow. Warm up: Food diary.
SUB DAY The sub passed out a new article on the politics of food titled "If You Pitch It, They Will Eat" by David Barboza. The instructions for today are on Google classroom. First, answer the 5 questions about making predictions for the article. Then read through the article and annotate. Annotations will be checked tomorrow. HOMEWORK: Finish annotations if not done in class. Warm up: Food Diary.
Today we watched the documentary "Food Inc." while finishing the one-pager activity. HOMEWORK: One-pager due Monday. Warm up: Food Diary
Today was a work day for your one pager. See the instructions from yesterday's post for more information on what should be on your one pager. Remember, all the white space should be filled with quotes, responses, and relevant pictures! HOMEWORK: None. Warm up: Food diary. Now that you know there is "invisible corn" in a lot of the food we eat, how do you feel about your diet? We started by watching the following video (at the end of this post). This is the trailer for the full length documentary about corn. This gives a visual representation to the article we read, "When a Crop Becomes King". To finish with this article, we are going to summarize and respond in the form of a one pager. Here is the list of instructions. See me for the rubric.
If you did not finish annotating the text yesterday, you need to have it done by tomorrow. Warm up: Food Diary
We're reading through "When a Crop Becomes King" by Michael Pollan today in class. First, read Pollan’s essay silently, and note in the margin where your predictions turn out to be true. Note also what surprises you As you reread Pollan’s essay, “When a Crop Becomes King,” make marginal notations: ask questions, express surprise, disagree, elaborate, and note any moments of confusion. Here is one way to structure marginal notations.
HOMEWORK: Finish reading through the article and making annotations. |
