Warm-up: Practicing nouns. If you were absent make sure you get the work from another student. You are still responsible for warm-ups even if you were absent.
Today we read the article "Here, Kitty-Kitty-Kitty-Kitty: Sausalito firm offers clones for $50,000, signs up 5 cat owners" by Carolyn Said. Be sure to underline main ideas as you read. We will be working with the text tomorrow so be sure to bring it in with you. At the end of the period I walked the class through uploading our book selfies. To recap:
HOMEWORK: No homework! But make sure you're starting off the year on the right foot! If you didn't finish the activity on Google Classroom for yesterday, make sure you get that done by the end of the night.

Check Google Classroom for today's activity "Surveying the Text". Make sure when you open the document that you change the title and the heading to reflect your information (name and period number). The goal of this activity is not to read the entire article on cloning, but rather to glance through the text and make some predictions about the content. Each question will guide you through the text before asking for an answer. We answered questions 1-5 today. Here is a link to the article that you will need in order to answer the questions: HOMEWORK: Your only homework is to finish today's assignment if you didn't finish in class. REMINDER: If you have your "book selfie" photo saved to your phone or to YOUR Google Drive tomorrow (Wednesday) I will help walk you through how to upload your photo to the drop box. If you would like to do it yourself there are instructions on Google Classroom. Warm up: Vocabulary #1, set 1 of 4. Get this from another student if you were absent. Remember to find 2 synonyms per word and highlight them in your notebook. Notebook checks are every other Friday.
Today we started our first ERWC unit: "To Clone, or Not to Clone." We started with a cubing activity focused around the word "clone". Templates can be found in the "absent" folder if you were not here today. We then did a picture walk to gather first impressions on various mammals that have been cloned, followed by a quickwrite responding to the question "If you could clone any of the mammals you just saw, which one would you choose and why?" You will need to come in at lunch or after school to make this up if not done in class. HOMEWORK: None from today, yay! REMINDER: Book selfie photos are due WEDNESDAY by 3:30 pm so I can get them printed! Check Google Classroom for instructions! If you have your photo on your phone by Wednesday, we will walk through the instructions for uploading together. Its Friday! We set goals for the semester and for the year today by making a goal poster. Not only should you determine your goals but you should also write something that you can do each day to reach your goal. The link below will take you to the Google Slides with the instructions. You can use a regular sheet of printer paper and markers, colored pencils, or crayons to make it unique and colorful. Feel free to draw pictures if you'd like! Homework:
Finish the goal poster if you didn't finish in class. If I didn't get the signed sheet from the syllabus from you today, be sure to bring it on Monday. The link to the syllabus is to the right hand side of this page under "Information." Have a great weekend! Today we did an activity using a bridge map to show what respect looks like from one student to another, from the student towards a teacher, and from a teacher towards a student. I was really impressed with your answers and we seem to know a lot about what respect looks like. I know if we all strive to be respectful every day, we will have a great year!
We also went over the syllabus today which included classroom expectations. Students and parents need to sign the last page of the syllabus and return to me tomorrow on Friday. A link to the syllabus will be to the right under the "Important" information about this blog. The syllabus can also be found under the "About" page as well as on the "Info" page on Google classroom. If you any questions let me know. HOMEWORK: 1) Sign and return the last page on the syllabus showing that you understand what is expected. 2) Finish your letter to Ms. Hahn. You can find instructions on the handout from yesterday. Remember to be persuasive! The first day of school is done! It was such a pleasure meeting every single one of you. I hope you've enjoyed the your first day in this class and are excited to start the year off on a positive note with me. I am excited to learn with you as we delve deeper into texts and work to improve our writing. Like I said in class today, I LOVE reading and I hope that I can inspire you to love it too, or at least spark a little interest.
If I didn't get to see you in class, or even if I did, please say "hi" as you see me around campus or come up and introduce yourself. Remember: I'm terrible at names! Do not fret if I stumble or forget tomorrow, Friday, Monday, or two weeks from now. It doesn't mean I don't care, but I promise I will get it eventually. If you were absent, no worries, I will give you the handout we did in class upon your return. HOMEWORK: Make sure you write your letter of introduction to me! You can find it on the back of the activity we did today. I will be collecting both the activity sheet and your letter (stapled together) tomorrow at the beginning of class. Start the year with an A! |
Important:Be sure to check back daily for assignments. Especially if you were absent! Archives
