Warm up: What do you do when you come across a word you don’t know while you’re reading? What are three things you could do to understand the meaning of the word?
Vocab: Change the first tab in your binder to "Vocabulary". Add a new table of contents for this section. I handed out a list of root words to begin studying for SAT vocabulary today. You'll want to read through the roots and begin to become familiar with them. We will have a vocab test every three weeks in class. It is your responsibility to make sure you're doing the practice you need to in order to be prepared.
In class today we wrote an AXES paragraph to answer the following prompt:
How do the first experiences of the Pilgrims in the New World help to shape early American identity? Use the text to support your answers.
This will be a summative grade for reading informational texts. In other words, I’m looking to see how well you portray that you understand the text.
You have a grammar test tomorrow on Building Compound & Complex Sentences. You can prepare by doing the practice and lessons on No Red Ink. The link is on Google Classroom.
Check in here daily for what you may have missed in class, homework and updates.
