Handout: Grammar Handbook of Rules and Definitions. This goes in your Academic Toolkit as page G2. If you were absent, you can find a copy with your name on it in the back of the room. Today we did a whole class discussion about how the plot, setting, and characters affect the story of The Scarlet Letter as a whole. If you were absent, or need a refresher on what we discussed, you can find similar information in the skills lesson on StudySync titled Story Elements. HOMEWORK: None. ***SUB***

FINAL DAY with your groups. Work together to type up your AXES paragraphs into a group essay. Work together to write the introduction and conclusions. HOMEWORK: Group essay due by midnight tonight! Warm up: Choose three vocab words you feel least confident about and write a sentence for each.
Vocab quiz #1 Finish writing your AXES paragraph. One per person for the following prompt: How do the first experiences of the Pilgrims in the New World help to shape our early American identity? Use the text to support your answers. HOMEWORK: Finish AXES paragraph. Warm up: Share summaries with one another in your group. Give feedback. Jigsaw Day 2: Move into new groups. Each person in your group will have read one section of the text. Share your summaries of each section. Then work towards writing one AXES paragraph each. Day 1 of jigsaw reading "Of Plymouth Plantation". Working in your small groups, you read through one of the 4 sections of text and annotated for content. You need to work in a group because the language is difficult and 4 brains are better than one. Talk it out and annotate the text by summarizing what Bradford is saying in your own words. Then, choose 5 words that could summarize the text. Write a summary of your section using those five words. HOMEWORK: Five-word summary due tomorrow. Today I introduced the Organized Binder system. You got all the papers you need and all the instruction on how to put them together properly. If you were absent or if you need help with your binder, ask one of your classmates first before coming to me. There is also a master binder in the front of the room to model yours after.

Warm up: vocab practice Complete "Blast: We the People" on StudySync and then do 10 reviews, giving feedback as you go. When done, finish your Close Read of The Story of an Hour. If you are completely done with both of these activities, either study your vocabulary words via Quizlet, your notes, or make flashcards, or read your independent reading book. HOMEWORK: All today's assignments need to be done by Tuesday. |
