We took a practice CAASPP today. If you did not finish, or if you were absent, you will finish/make up the exam on Monday.
Have a great weekend!

1. Reflection on Food Diary. Take a few minutes to look back through your food diary. Do you see any patterns in your diet? Have your eating habits changed in any way since you started thinking about the food you eat? Why or why not? Do you want to change your eating habits since reading the articles by Berry, Pollan, and Barboza? Why or why not?
2. Predictions: We're reading one last article in our Politics of Food unit. We did a brief prediction discussion based on the title of the next article, first with a partner, then as a class. 3. Review of AXES paragraph structure and practice using structure. This is the structure that will ensure that you fully answer written responses to short answer questions on the CAASPP. Handout and Nearpod practice activity are on Google Classroom. ANNOUNCEMENT: You will be taking the CAASPP practice exam tomorrow. This is MANDATORY and you should do your best. The results tell me what you know, and what we need to work on so you can be successful for the upcoming test in May. 1. We reviewed the Barboza WebQuest since there seemed to be some confusion.
2. You did a quickwrite and reflection today. Here are the prompts:
HOMEWORK: Finish if not done in class. 1. Food diary
2. We finished discussing the stylistic choices the authors Berry, Pollan, and Barboza made while writing their articles. 3. What is Evidence? activity on Google Classroom. Instructions are on the document and are rather simple. You are looking through the three articles for various types of evidence. Don't forget your in-text citations! HOMEWORK: Finish evidence activity. Food Diary
We did an activity to look at the stylistic choices made by Berry, Pollan, and Barboza in writing their articles. The assignment is on Google Classroom. HOMEWORK: If you did not finish in class, you need to finish at home. Today you finished your webquest by the end of the period while we watched the rest of Food, Inc.
Make sure to bring all 3 articles to class on Monday. The Pollan, Berry, and Barboza articles. You will need all three for the assignment and I can't guarantee there are extra copies here. HOMEWORK: None. Warm up: Food diary (not too much longer folks so make sure you're keeping up!)
Yesterday you looked at food packages. Today, you used the info you gathered and your knowledge from the Pollan, Berry, and Bardoza articles to create an anti-advertisement for your product. In other words, how would you UNSELL your product. Then you did a webquest online to see what current laws and regulations are in place for marketing food to children, in and out of schools. We will finish this tomorrow. HOMEWORK: None. Warm up: Food diary
We finished the activity "Noticing Language" on Google Classroom today. We then got out our food labels.
HOMEWORK: None. Warm up: Food diary.
Quickwrite: What year was the article “If You Pitch It, They Will Eat” written by David Barboza? What is the main claim of this article? Find one support of this claim that may be outdated or no longer true. I was disappointed to see that out of all three classes only two people appeared to have their annotating done from yesterday. Today was a silent workday to make up for yesterday's lack of work. Annotations need to be done before class tomorrow. HOMEWORK: Catch up on work. Bring food package for tomorrow. Warm up: Food diary.
SUB DAY The sub passed out a new article on the politics of food titled "If You Pitch It, They Will Eat" by David Barboza. The instructions for today are on Google classroom. First, answer the 5 questions about making predictions for the article. Then read through the article and annotate. Annotations will be checked tomorrow. HOMEWORK: Finish annotations if not done in class. |
Important:Be sure to check back daily for assignments. Especially if you were absent! Archives
